Information About Cumulative Benchmark Assessments
In an effort to reduce the number of tests our students take throughout a grading period, Hamilton Local Schools switched from giving two Short Cycle Assessments (SCAs) to one Cumulative Benchmark Assessment (CBA) during the grading period for students to demonstrate their cumulative content knowledge. Students will still take unit quizzes and tests throughout the grading period, but will not have an additional SCA midway through. In fourth through twelfth grade, the CBA counts as 20% of the grading period's overall score for each class/course.

In years past, the SCAs may have counted as much as 35% in some grades or courses, but lower in other grades or courses. Not only is this an effort to reduce the number of tests the students take, but it also provides consistency among our buildings and classes so that students and parents know what to expect. The mathematics and reading content covered in the elementary school are such building blocks for the remainder of the students' academic careers. Therefore, in second and third grade, the CBA counts as 25% of the grading period score in order for parents and teachers to track the learning progress and retention of those foundational skills.

If you have any questions regarding the Cumulative Benchmark Assessment (CBA), please contact our district’s Director of Teaching and Learning at 614-491-8044 ext. 1209.
