HLSD Introduces New Drivers' Education Program

Starting December 11, 2023, our school district will be partnering with the MOV ESC Driving School to provide Driver Education to Hamilton Township students. This will be a comprehensive and hands-on drivers’ education program designed to equip our students with the skills and knowledge needed to hit the road safely.

Led by our in-house, certified driving instructors, the program will cover everything from basic road rules to advanced maneuvering techniques. Students will have the opportunity to clock in those essential driving hours, gaining valuable real-world experience in a supportive and controlled environment.

Not only does this program emphasize the importance of road safety, but it also aligns with our commitment to provide a well-rounded education that prepares students for life beyond the classroom. Superintendent Tyler expressed enthusiasm about the program stating, “We’re thrilled to offer this drivers’ education program to our students. It’s an important step in fostering responsible and confident young drivers who will contribute to a safer community. This initiative aligns with our district mission: Every Ranger, Every Reason, Every Day.”

“Upon recognizing the availability of this licensing program and its potential impact on our students, we engaged in discussions with Superintendent Tyler to explore the possibility of offering this program,” says school board member Amber Clark. “Through these conversations, it became evident that implementing a comprehensive drivers’ education program aligns seamlessly with our 3E’s initiative as well.”

School board president Wally Obert and Mrs. Clark both spoke about how this program will remove barriers for our students, particularly in the realm of driving, thereby enabling them to thrive in various aspects of their educational journey. The integration of this program will contribute to the success of our Career-Based Intervention (CBI) efforts, facilitate students’ ability to travel to earn college credits through our CCP program, secure internships, and gain valuable work experience. “We believe that by offering a program like this, we are not only addressing a critical need but also equipping our students with essential life skills that extend beyond the classroom” says Mr. Obert.

We are still working out the details but it is likely that there will be financial assistance available to those who qualify. Please reach out to Mr. Dan Whitney in our high school guidance office where he will be coordinating the logistics of this program. He can be reached by phone at (614) 491-8044 ext. 1806 and by email at [email protected].
